If there is a family history of allergies, mothers and fathers should consult their paediatrician on how to avoid and cope with food allergies. The following are the 8 food groups that are most likely to cause food allergies.
Milk.
Eggs, especially the egg white part.
Nuts.
Peanuts.
Soya.
Wheat.
Fish.
Shellfish such as shrimps.
New foods should be added separately when trying a new variety of complementary foods, and only small amounts should be tried at first, gradually increasing the amount over the next few days and observing continuously to ensure there are no problems. If your baby shows signs of allergy, stop feeding the food and contact the paediatrician. Some of the signs that your baby may have a food allergy include
1. swelling of the lips, tongue or face
2. difficulty breathing.
3. vomiting.
4. diarrhoea.
5. itching and rashes on the skin.
6. hives.
