Avoid giving raw shellfish and fish to infants

Raw or undercooked shellfish and fish can increase the risk of food poisoning and are therefore best avoided for babies.
When choosing fish as a complementary food, avoid choosing fish that are large or have high mercury content, such as shark and swordfish. This is because consumption of fish with high mercury content can affect the development of the baby's nervous system.
