Children under the age of 5 should not eat whole nuts

It is recommended that children under the age of 5 should not eat whole nuts, including sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, pine nuts, peanuts and other smaller-looking nuts.
Nuts contain a variety of minerals, such as calcium, iron, zinc and so on. However, nuts have a hard texture, and when consumed, babies may choke in the trachea, which is not easily coughed up due to their young age, leading to the risk of choking, which can be life-threatening in severe cases. But this does not mean that the nuts can not be consumed, we just crush the nuts, ground into powder form (sesame powder, walnut powder, etc.) or provide smooth and diluted nuts or peanut butter.
During the feeding process, do not tease and laugh and cry. If a foreign body in the airway is suspected, it is recommended to visit the ENT department of the hospital as soon as possible.
