The World Health Organization and other authoritative bodies recommend that babies should not add salt and sugar and other condiments to complementary foods before the age of one!
Because babies' tastebuds are developing and sensitive to foreign condiments, adding condiments can easily cause picky eating or anorexia. Adding salt too early can increase the risk of hypertension and cardiovascular disease in later life and place a burden on the immature kidneys. Restrictions on sugar can also prevent dental caries.
